I’ve been thinking about writing this blog to connect with other women and maybe provide inspiration the way so many women have given me. I am the CEO and Co-founder of ModaBox– or as my team says- #modaboss!
I first came to New York in 2006 and my journey to get here was a long one! I was born in a refugee camp in Argentina (my parents settled there after fleeing a war in their home country Laos). I dropped out of school when I was 14 and when I was 17 I boarded a plane for the first time in my life and started a new life in America. It took me awhile to get up to speed in the US- I didn’t speak a word of English when I first got here! I got a job working at Express, worked my butt off to become a manager and eventually had the courage and dream to move to NY. When I got here I had only 2 suitcases and $200 but somehow against all odds I made it! After working on 5th Avenue for 4 years I had the confidence to try my own business and started hustling to street fairs all over Manhattan to sell dresses. One night while walking around Chelsea in New York City I stumbled into The Limelight Shops and a couple months later I opened my first store there in one of the most iconic buildings in the heart of New York. After 3 years of learning how to own and manage a retail store I was ready for my next step and ModaBox was born!
My life has been a great journey thus far. I’ve been inspired by many remarkable people, and now I want to share what I’ve learned and hopefully inspire you!
